This year as well as last year, our school hosted Spanish students from Cádiz. At the beginning of October we had the pleasure to welcome three Spanish girls – Vicky, Sara and Irene who came to the Czech Republic for six weeks to study here and to learn about our culture and life style. Once again, all three girls were very nice students who showed lots of interest in our traditions, food,… While here, they went on many trips and many adventurous outings together with other Czech students. However, the lives of Zuzana Sajdlová, Magdaléna Trejtnarová and Tatiana Vošvrdová were affected the most since the Spanish visitors stayed in their families.
What do the Czech students say about the experience?
Zuzka about Sara
8th October 2024 was the day I met my Erasmus partner for the first time. I was a little bit worried because apart from a letter with photos and some messages I didn’t know much about my future companion.
But already at the airport I realized that there was nothing to be worried about with Sara. And the more time I spent with her only made me more and more sure. I’ve found out that she is very nice, cheerful, generous and kind, but also very brave, strong-willed and confident.
We have experienced a lot of things together, e.g. from making a Halloween pumpkin, hiking to Velká Deštná, going ice skating and riding a bike to playing board games, going to dancing lessons and many, many other things, I think we have enjoyed it all. And there was not a thing that Sara would refuse to take part in, which I appreciated a lot.
I am really pleased that I can be a part of this Erasmus+ programme and that I had an opportunity to meet such a great person like Sara. I hope that she had a good time here and I’m looking forward to going to Cádiz for the second part of the study exchange program.

Táňa about Irene
I was nervous when we were waiting for the girls at the airport. But when they finally came through the gate, I knew we would have a great time in Czechia together.
Me and my family had a goal to give Irene the best experiences she could have here. While many weekends were spent with friends, we also showed her a lot of typical Czech traditions, our history and culture, trying to make every memory different and unforgettable.
The Czech food was a whole new world for Irene, but once, we decided to switch roles and go to a Spanish restaurant to see what it feels like to taste things you’ve never had a chance to try. I hope she enjoyed my grandpa´s cooking, as well as my mom´s great dishes.
I think everyone’s speaking improved a lot. My family also spent some evenings with Irene by just chatting and comparing our two languages to English. All of us learned some Spanish words, but most importantly, we taught her some Czech.
The six-week stay felt like a really busy day, but then the time to return the girls to their families came. Now, even though I still feel sad, I´m excited to see her again in the late spring!

Majda about Vicky
This six weeks gave me and took from me so much. But I don´t regret even one single day with Vicky (my exchange student). I really enjoyed the trips that we went on. My personal favourite was a trip to the mini zoo in Častolovice because it was a really nice evening. We went there by train with Ella and Týna (our Czech friends). At the train station in Častolovice we met Zuzka and Sara. Then we went to the mini zoo where you can feed the animals. The girls were at first scared but later they enjoyed feeding all the animals.
Me and my family wanted Vicky to have the best Czech food experience that she could get so we tried to make a lot of tradicional dishes. Although it didn´t always look good, she wanted to try it. That is what we liked about her. She was open to new things. I can´t wait to see her in Spain.
